QDowne / Calgary, Alberta
I used to photograph wars.
Now mostly cars.
I started travelling young and spent years working as a conflict photographer. That took me to Ukraine, Sudan and places where having a camera was rarely the hard part. Local fixers, colleagues and people who trusted me taught me more than any photography course ever could.
After Wad Madani, I stepped away from conflict work. I needed photography to become something I wanted to pick up again, rather than something I was obligated to carry.
Cars did that. Rallycross, drift, car meets, ridiculous builds, interesting people and the last few minutes of useful light brought the fun back.
Today I work publicly as QDowne, also simply Q or Downe Photography. I am based in Calgary and photograph automotive, motorsport, people and travel work, with selected documentary photographs preserved in the field archive.
For commissions, editorial work, travel or a car that deserves better than a phone photo, use the booking page or write to bookings@downe.ca.
